A meeting of the Coordination Group on attracting grants and concessional long-term financing to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic

On April 27 this year, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov headed the first meeting of the Coordination Group on attracting grants and concessional long-term financing created by the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated April 22, 2020 No. PP-4691 on Measures to Attract External Assistance Funds to Support population, budget, Basic Infrastructure And Business Entities During the Coronavirus Pandemic, via video conference.

During the meeting, heads of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, industry departments, specialized agencies and commercial banks reported on current measures to counteract the negative consequences of the global coronavirus pandemic embodied in the above Resolution.

These measures are focused on strengthening of the public health care system, support of state budget, banking system and entrepreneurship, ensuring of uninterrupted operation of utility companies and energy enterprises, as well as implementation of socially oriented and infrastructure projects.

The attendees separately negotiated on effective control over the targeted use of financial resources attracted to minimize the impact of global crisis on the Country's economy.

As the meeting results, the top officials of the Coordination Group provided specific instructions to ministries, departments, local authorities and commercial banks to prepare detailed calculations of the actual funding needs for each individual social and infrastructure project. They set a task to optimize the use of attracted funds and grants from international financial institutions to provide the most effective support to citizens and business entities of the Republic in current conditions associated with the pandemic.
