Meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Korea

On July 7 this year, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov met with Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Kim Sang-hee during the visit of Uzbekistan's Government Delegation to Seoul.­

The dialogue emphasized the importance of mutual measures to gradually expand parliamentary diplomacy and the intensive development of multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Korea with a view to the trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian partnership. The parties noted the specific of the strategic interaction of the two countries, which positively impacted on their economic and social development.

From this perspective, they separately noted a special coordinating role assigned to the associations and groups of friendship and cooperation established in the parliaments of both countries.

The Government of Uzbekistan expressed strong interest in further increase of cooperation with Korea in trade, investment, finance, education, science, medicine in terms of the development and implementation of new joint initiatives and projects. Here, the Korean side highly appreciated the measures taken under Uzbekistan's initiative on accession to the WTO, and noted that this process will positively impact the dynamics of further development of trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Korea.

It was agreed that the Uzbek side will consider the experience of Korean legislative drafting with a view to the borrowing of advanced legislative mechanisms that ensure increased parliamentary control over the executive branch, as well as regulating state relations with business and investors.

The parties agreed to unite the efforts of the parliaments and governments of both countries to effectively implement the agreements already reached and to further improve forms and mechanisms of interaction.
