The 25th meeting of the Uzbek-British Council for Trade and Industry in February
On February 3-4 this year, there will be the 25th meeting of the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council (UBTIC), a unique platform uniting government and business circles of the two countries via video-conferencing.
The event will be hosted by the Department for International Trade of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
More than 40 speakers will address during the video-conference, including the heads of ministries and departments of the two countries, as well as top officials of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation and other international financial institutions and development partners.
In parallel with the plenary session, there will be a number of online negotiations involving representatives of the governmental authorities of the UK and Uzbekistan, which will consider pressing concerns of bilateral investment, trade, and economic cooperation.
Minister of State for Trade Policy of Great Britain Greg Hands headed the British Delegation, and First Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade L. Kudratov headed the Uzbek Delegation during the meeting. It is expected that Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov will deliver a welcoming speech.
It is worth noting that the trade and economic relations between the two countries received a new impetus thanks to the signing of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in December 2019. The upcoming UBTIC meeting will be the first such event since the entry of the Agreement into force.
In recent years, British and Uzbek companies have consistently increased cooperation in the four key areas of social and economic development, which are the priority under UBTIC - clean energy, financial services, health care, and education.
Participants in the online conference will have access to a special platform where they can exchange contacts and organize B2B business meetings. The participation in the conference is free.
