The progress in the increase of social and economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan

On September 22-25 this year, a Working Group headed by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov and involving heads of ministries, departments and local authorities monitored the implementation of measures and initiatives to increase social and economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as the execution of instructions given during the previous visit of the Group in early September this year.

The members of the Working Group had direct meetings with entrepreneurs and reviewed the state of ongoing investment projects, discussed existing issues and developed practical measures, which will significantly accelerate the commissioning of industrial and agricultural enterprises that are being created. They emphasized the priority to attract investments in the most promising sectors, i.e. points of economic growth in order to achieve the maximum economic effect as soon as possible.

There also was an analysis of the effectiveness of the work implemented to increase the industrial and export potential of the region by restoring idle or running below full capacity enterprises and their comprehensive support in establishing production and foreign trade activities.

Particular attention touched upon the development of industrial cooperation and increase of local population employment through the development of domestic labor in such areas as poultry farming, fish farming and animal husbandry in order to create additional opportunities for stable income, which is especially important under current challenges facing the economy due to negative effects of the pandemic.

There were instructions to work out additional measures to develop entrepreneurship in districts and cities of the region, as one of the most important points of economic growth and the main source of employment for the population. The members of the Group emphasized the need in systemic measures for favorable conditions for the development of small and medium-sized businesses, as well as introduction of prompt solution for emerging problems on the ground.

A particular attention touched upon measures taken to develop regional education, health care system, culture and sports. This involved instructions to improve effective operation of existing and newly created facilities in order to provide the population with high-quality social services.

The visit resulted in targeted instructions to the heads of the relevant ministries and departments to establish coordinated work aimed at concrete results in further increase of social and economic development of the region, as well as the increase of human wellbeing.
