US Trade Representative Office to assist in Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO
The Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade had a video conference with Assistant US Trade Representative for South and Central Asian Affairs, C. Wilson. The parties negotiated on bilateral cooperation as part of the Republic of Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The top officials of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, as well as representatives of several ministries and departments of the Republic included in the Interdepartmental Commission for Working with the WTO represented the Uzbek side during video conference.
The American side received information on the progress in the Republican’s accession to the WTO and the status of required documents.
Wilson positively assessed the measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan under accession to the WTO and confirmed the willingness of the American side to comprehensively support Uzbekistan herein. The parties agreed on the need to accelerate the ongoing initiatives in spite of the current epidemiological situation.
The American side supposed that the period of the coronavirus pandemic and the related cancellation of events at the WTO headquarters in Geneva until the end of April this year could be an opportunity for the Uzbek side to prepare to the 4th meeting of the Working Group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO and upcoming negotiations with its member countries more thoroughly and competently.
The parties also agreed to continue a direct dialogue and regularly hold similar videoconferences to effectively organize the Republic’s accession to the WTO enabling elaboration of agenda more intensively and efficiently.
