Uzbekistan – Türkiye: on the path to further enhancement of partnership
On March 7 this year, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Uzbekistan Olgan Bekar.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Uzbek side expressed deep condolences in connection with the loss of lives and significant damage caused by the strong earthquake that occurred in February in the southeastern regions of Turkey. In turn, the Turkish diplomat expressed special gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for sending rescuers to assist in the elimination of the consequences of a natural disaster in the affected regions of Turkey and a large amount of humanitarian aid.
During the talks, prospects for increasing the volume of mutual trade and investment cooperation were discussed. It was noted that the indicators of bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Türkiye have increased 1.5 times over the past three years, and the volume of investments has doubled. The parties confirmed mutual intentions to continue active cooperation to maintain such positive dynamics.
A high assessment of the intensity of the expansion of ties and diversification of corridors in the field of transport and logistics between Uzbekistan and Türkiye was noted. In this context, specific measures were agreed to increase the number of flights this year and launch flights to new destinations between the regions of the two countries.
In addition, the parties discussed organizational issues of holding the next meeting of the Uzbek-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation in the second half of this year. An agreement was reached to intensify the interaction of relevant ministries and departments to saturate the agenda of the upcoming event with promising contracts and agreements.
Following the talks, mutual commitment was expressed to continue close joint work in the interests of further development of Uzbek-Turkish multifaceted cooperation.
