The Republican Commission on Gender Issues discussed the implementation of the tasks defined in the National Program

On May 11, 2023, a meeting of the Republican Commission on increasing the role of women in society, gender equality and family was held in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, during which the progress in implementing the tasks defined in the adopted decrees and resolutions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on further accelerating work on systemic family support was discussed and women, as well as the National Program for increasing the activity of women in all areas of economic, political and social life of the country for 2022 - 2026. 

The meeting was chaired by Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairwoman of the Commission, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

The Senate Chairwoman drew attention to the ongoing work to comprehensively support women, increase their activity, create necessary conditions for them, especially adoption of important measures to strengthen the legal and institutional framework for protecting the interests of women.

In particular, in 2022, in order to strengthen the legal framework in this area, 27 regulatory legal acts were adopted and are under active implementation.

The Law “On introducing amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with further improvement of the system of reliable protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of women and children” was adopted. It was noted at the meeting that the Law was fully supported by the general public and the international community.

The Program for Increasing the Activism of Women in Government Bodies, the Road Map and the National Plan for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1325 “Women, Peace and Security” were also approved and are in implementation phase.

In 2023, the Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 was approved and is being implemented.

Women's education was identified as one of the main priority areas and, on special recommendation, 1,982 needy women, 507 women with at least 5 years of work experience, but without higher education, were admitted to higher educational institutions on the basis of a state scholarship.

In addition, the contract amounts of 12,300 women studying in master's programs and 2,053 needy women studying in bachelor's degrees were paid; more than 139 thousand female students were provided with interest-free educational loans for a period of 7 years.

Particular attention is paid to providing employment for women and training them in entrepreneurship. More than 252 thousand women were trained in professions and entrepreneurship, employment was provided for more than 623 thousand women, and loans worth 3.9 trillion soums were provided to more than 193 thousand women.

Over 3 million 336 thousand women underwent a primary cancer screening examination, about 1 million 13 thousand elderly women underwent an in-depth medical examination and received the necessary medical care.

With almost 645 thousand women who find themselves in difficult life situations, work was carried out on the basis of an individual program and measures were taken to solve their problems. The living conditions of almost 12.9 thousand women have been improved, 6,876 women in need of social protection have been provided with rehabilitation means totaling 7.3 billion soums.
