The “Sign of Gender Equality for Government Institutions” program is under implementation in Uzbekistan for the first time among Central Asian states
Yesterday, the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Women and Gender Equality, together with the UNDP, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, held a meeting of the working group on the “Gender Equality Sign for Government Institutions” program.
The program is aimed at further empowering women and men in our country, promoting gender equality between government institutions. This program is being implemented in Uzbekistan for the first time among the Central Asian states.
Speaking at the event, Malika Kadirkhanova, Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security, noted that gender equality in our country is given special attention, in particular, the share of women in government bodies is increasing every year.
In particular, in the 2014 elections, our country ranked 128th out of 193 countries on the issue of gender equality. By the 2019 elections, the ranking had risen to 37th place. Today, the share of women in our parliament is 33%, that is, 48 out of 150 deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and 24 out of 100 senators in the Senate are women.
Our country has adopted the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality for the period up to 2030. It places great emphasis on creating equal opportunities for women and men. This Strategy is consistently applied today.
It was also noted at the event that a special platform will be created within the Ministry’s system through which workers will be able to ask their questions and suggestions on gender equality issues.
At the meeting, detailed information was provided on the work carried out in the ministry’s system within the framework of the “Sign of Gender Equality” program.
